HHB Wire - What is HHB Wire, Properties and Uses
HHB Wire is also known as Half Hard Bright Wire. As its name suggests, Half Hard means HHB Wire is neither very soft nor very hard. It has sufficient hardness to bear any stress. HHB Wire is manufactured from MS Wire. MS Wire Rod is the raw material used to manufacture HHB Wire. It has low carbon content ranging from 0.08% to 0.25%. In this blog, we will the properties, manufacturing process, and uses of HHB Wire.
Properties
Tensile Strength -
HHB Wire has high tensile strength as compared to other low-carbon steel wires. It has high strength because of its hardness and manufacturing process. Due to its hardness, it is widely used in the construction and agriculture industry.
Durability -
HHB Wire is highly durable. It has undergone various physical and chemical treatments during its manufacturing. This increases the durability of HHB Wire.
Malleability -
HHB Wire is highly malleable. It can be cut, bent, or molded into different shapes without breaking its structural integrity. It is very easy to work with HHB Wire.
Bright Surface -
HHB Wire has a very bright surface because of its smooth surface finish. This smooth surface finish is achieved by removing the extra layer of carbon on the surface, drawing process, and finishing process. Due to the bright surface of HHB Wire, it is used in the manufacturing of jewellery and crafted material.
Versatility -
HHB Wire is versatile in nature. It can be manufactured in different diameters, gauges, and specifications. It can be fully customized according to the customer demand.
Manufacturing Process
Descaling Process -
MS Wire rods have an extra layer of carbon over them due to exposure to the environment. So the very first step is the removal of this extra carbon layer from the wire. This is known as the Descaling process.
Pickling Process -
The second step is to clean the wire by removing the impurities. The cleaning of MS Wire rods is done with the help of phosphate, borax, or lime water.
Drawing process -
In the third process, MS Wire rods are passed through a series of dies and rotating drums. This is also known as the Cold wire drawing process as no heat is applied to the wire. This reduces the diameter of the wire and hence HB Wire is formed.
Annealing Process -
In the annealing process, HB Wire undergoes heat treatment. The wire is heated in a furnace at 840 degrees Celsius for about 7-8 hours. This heat treatment enhances the chemical and physical properties of the wire. The final wire formed after this process is Annealed Wire.
Chemical treatment -
In the final step, The annealed wire is treated with Sulphuric acid, water, and then lime water. After drying, a rust protective oil is applied to the wire. The final drawing is given to the wire to form HHB Wire.
Uses of HHB Wire
HHB Wire is used in the manufacturing of Shoe tacks, and screws (drywall screws, chipboard screws, self-drilling screws, sheet metal screws, etc.)
In Vishal Industries Chandigarh, we manufacture Premium Quality MS Wire in the form of HB Wire, HHB Wire, Annealed Wire, and Boron Steel Wire. We are known for our quality wires, Since 1987.
